Having made a name for themselves on English dancefloors with their DJ sets and a few remixes (such as the much-prized Trick Mi, released on their Punchline label), The Heatwave made their first production with Warrior Queen on the minimalist Piano Riddim.

As things move slowly but surely, that same track came out in March on Soul Jazz Records, with a remix by DJ C. Recounting her own experience (she left Jamaica for England), Warrior Queen has fun comparing the two islands on Things Change. The track will also appear on an upcoming Soul Jazz compilation, "An England Story", which looks back over 25 years of dancehall, reggae, hip hop and grime on the British scene.

Things Change is the first of several singles on the Piano Riddim: MC Riko Dan and Rubi Dan have recorded two new tracks on the same riddim. Rubi Dan denounces violence and corruption in England (Higher Heights) and Riko Dan (Mind how you talk) sends a message to his younger self, advising himself not to take up the badman lifestyle.

Tracklist:
01. Warrior Queen & The Heatwave - Things change
02. Riko Dan & The Heatwave - Mind how you a talk
03. Rubi Dan & The Heatwave - Higher heights
04. Warrior Queen & The Heatwave - Things change (DJ C Remix)

In Jamaica, the lifeblood of the record industry is the riddim (from "rhythm"), an instrumental produced by a label. A label that does not settle for recording a single artist on that riddim, but as many as it can: this is what is called a "series". To make a name for itself, a label will try to get big names on its riddim. Amid the endless flow of releases, artists have every interest in voicing the most popular riddim of the moment. Every week in Jamaica, more than a hundred 7" singles are produced this way. Only later, if an artist manages to find a distributor and a record company, can they make an album, which usually gathers some of those singles.
