Take It Easy riddim – Ranch Entertainment, Inc.

By a twist of fate, the Take It Easy riddim came out a few days before the death of Hopeton Lewis, original author of Take It Easy, a classic considered the first rocksteady track in history.

It is Shaggy's label, Ranch Entertainment, that is behind this recut, on which Mr Boombastic naturally appears. Over this irresistible rhythm, Shaggy has no trouble getting his flow going, as do the veteran deejay Josey Wales and the young Andre "GC" Fennell, while Christopher Martin, the set's only singer, begs his girl to stop playing with his feelings. A successful set that pays fine tribute to Hopeton Lewis.

Mix tracklist:
01. Christopher Martin - Playing Games With My Heart
02. GC - Yuh Look Good
03. Josey Wales - Ready Fi Josey
04. Red Fox - Right Pon Time
05. Screechy Dan - Raise Your Glass (Fi Di Working Class)
06. Shaggy - Work So Hard

In Jamaica, the lifeblood of the record industry is the riddim (from "rhythm"), an instrumental produced by a label. A label that does not settle for recording a single artist on that riddim, but as many as it can: this is what is called a "series". To make a name for itself, a label will try to get big names on its riddim. Amid the endless flow of releases, artists have every interest in voicing the most popular riddim of the moment. Every week in Jamaica, more than a hundred 7" singles are produced this way. Only later, if an artist manages to find a distributor and a record company, can they make an album, which usually gathers some of those singles.
