After "Clean Vibes" and "Storm Alarm", the "Dis Ya Time" riddim is the latest delivery from the double act of Bost & Bim and Special Delivery Music. The riddim is a cover of the Itals' Inna Dis Ya Time, which had already been revisited in the early 80s with Yellowman's Operation Radication. From the very first listen, you are won over by the piano melody and the driving bassline.
The track Government Life Fi War, already featured on "Born To Go High", brings back the winning combination of Lyricson, Natty King and Singing Melody, with a new mix that gives more breath to the horns and the percussion behind the vocals. Denouncing politics and its players, the trio is more than convincing, alternating Lyricson's deejay passages with the melodious singing of Natty King and Singing Melody.
True to his style, Lukie D lays down a lover's lyric on The one you love. His warm, relaxed voice charms us throughout the track. The revelation Natty King returns solo and vows to save the people with his singing on For My People. Very close to Bushman but more energetic, his voice blends very well with the groove of the riddim.
Turbulence leaves the singing to his partner Jahmali to concentrate on the deejay parts on Stay Strong. An energetic and particularly well-controlled flow coupled with a melodic voice: such is the recipe of this duo, whose two voices complement each other well. Probably the best cut of the series.
For his part, Sizzla Kalonji offers fairly calm singing on Good Over Evil, where his soft voice, well supported by the female backing vocals, recalls his first albums.
While tributes to mothers are plentiful, those to fathers are much rarer. Queen Omega delivers a message of love to her father on Big up Papa and thanks him for always having looked after her and her family so well. Her deejay phrasing works rather well on this kind of riddim. The lesser-known Alpheus, a Studio One veteran, also lays down a lover's lyric on Need to know.
Dis Ya Time proves to be a balanced series on which not a single track is a throwaway. Solid and varied, it offers interesting combinations. A success, made in France.
