Frankie Paul, U-Roy and Gregory Isaacs at the New Morning: the line-up was enticing, but it was above all the presence of Lloyd Parks & We the people, a legendary backing band, that made this 13 July 2005 an event.
Gregory Isaacs, U-Roy & Frankie Paul in ParisIn a sweltering atmosphere, Lloyd Parks on bass and the We the people band open the show. From then on we can be sure that the backing will be up to the artists: horn section, sound and dynamics perfect, nothing less was expected from this veteran group, used to festivals and recording studios. Lloyd Parks warms up the room with, notably, one of his biggest hits, Mafia, before announcing, in very professional fashion, Frankie "dancehall" Paul. "FP" is in great form and bursts in on the Kuff with Casanova. As usual, he strings together his biggest successes with brio: I know the score, Sarah, from his Jammy's period or the famous Pass the tushungpeng. On the Heavenless riddim, he sings not only his own song but also the tunes of Half Pint, Supercat and Little John. A pleasure.

Classic after classic
The style then changes with U-Roy, and one can only note that the band sounds just as good on rocksteady. The backing singers sing to perfection the melodies of the Paragons or the Melodians over which Daddy Roy toasts his classics: Wear you to the ball, Wake the town and Rule the nation. You would think you were reliving that bygone era, so fresh has U-Roy's voice remained. The audience is particularly receptive on Natty rebel, the toasted version of Soul rebel.

Gregory Isaacs, U-Roy & Frankie Paul in ParisAnnounced as is only proper by Lloyd Parks, Gregory Isaacs in turn comes on stage. The audience has the pleasure of hearing a relatively intact voice, unlike on his last visit to the capital. Here again, the "Cool ruler" does not forget the immortal songs that made his name: Number one, Mr Brown, Front door and Night nurse, which are received with enthusiasm. We also enjoy the song Hard drugs, performed during the encore. The three artists join each other on stage for Big all around, a digital hit originally sung by Isaacs and the late Dennis Brown, which brings this quality, if somewhat short, show to a close.
