The veteran DJ makes his comeback, driven by a feeling of vengeance. It had been a very long time since we had heard anything of Cutty Ranks; his rare appearances on singles have not got people talking about him as they used to.
Even so, a great many fans were eagerly awaiting this new album. After being produced by labels such as Penthouse or Shocking Vibes, it is now Jammys's turn to take things in hand. Listening to the album, however, one is left perplexed by the poor quality of some of the riddims, which genuinely limit Cutty Ranks's potential.
You can nevertheless discover his hidden talents as a singer on the track "Road Block". The combinations on the album are all successes and it is a pity there are not more of them. Wayne Marshall, a singer in vogue at the moment who appears on all of Ward 21's productions, gives us a smashing "Eye For an Eye" over a dangerous hip-hop beat.
The combination "No more Will I Roam" with the great Dennis Brown is also on the album, along with two tracks recorded with veteran Frankie Paul, including the very successful "What A Session", which plunges us straight into the atmosphere of a sound system in Jamaica. An album that could have been a success for Cutty Ranks, but which remains disappointing all the same.
