This is already Takana Zion's third album; he first came to prominence in 2007 with "Zion Prophet". In just a few years the Guinean singjay has established himself as a leading artist on the continent, filling stadiums in West Africa. The fact is that Takana Zion has always known how to surround himself well. His first two albums were born of his partnership with Manjul at the Humble Ark in Mali. For this new album, Takana Zion has not changed his recipe, but has entrusted it to a different cook: this time the destination was Jamaica, where Steven Stewart of Harry J studio was waiting for him and co-produced the album with Sam Clayton (Mystic Revelation of Rastafari).

In the hands and ears of this heavyweight, who has lent his talents to just about every talent Jamaica has known, Takana Zion delivers another success: there is nothing to throw away on this short album (only ten tracks), which rings with the combined talents of Sly Dunbar, Sticky Thompson, Robbie Lynn, Dalton Brownie...

Deeply influenced by Peter Tosh and Sizzla, Takana Zion sings only to address serious subjects. The kinship with the Bush Doctor is most intense on Stolen Family, which deals with slavery, or when, with a round, powerful bassline and warm horns, he imagines a Rasta government that would rule the world and make brotherhood triumph. Let us also mention the essential Glory, recorded in a single take with Capleton on top form (and already seen in a video). A former rapper, Takana Zion has kept the urgency in his voice, which he pours into Rise up or puts to good use on Khoule. Praise to Jah (Give Thanks to Jah) and love songs (M'bife means "I love you" in Malinke, his native language) complete these themes, giving the Guinean singjay the most Jamaican album of his discography, and the most accomplished too. There is no doubt: Takana Zion is one of contemporary reggae's safe bets.
