INTERVIEW
Interview & pictures : Filip Flatau
This young singjay, whom we discovered on the Xterminator label with the single " Think Of Peace ", is carving out a path among the greats. Although his style reminds us a little of Sizzla, there are nonetheless many differences in his intonation. Despite a somewhat disappointing album that undersells the real qualities of this young singer, we hope to have the opportunity to talk about Turbulence again in a few more years...
Reggaefrance / Turbulence, can you tell us about your beginnings? Turbulence / Well, I come from Kingston, I started singing as soon as I could hold a mic in my hand (laughs), that is, around the age of 10-11.
And how old are you now? I'm 19.
Which artist influenced you the most? Well, it's Sizzla, Sizzla Kalonji.
Because you really do sound like him...
How did you meet the Xterminator Crew? Through work and perseverance. It's a miracle! (laughs)
You've done two combinations with Prince Malachi; what do you think of this artist? Prince Malachi is one of the greatest, I respect him to the maximum.
Are you a Bobo Dread? Not yet, I have certain plans, because you know, here in Jamaica, only Rastafari helps the poor and people in need, and frees their minds.
What do you think of the Bobo Dreads? Yeah man, they're here for a specific purpose. That purpose is to give joy and love to others. That's why I want to become a bobo dread. For now I'm a binghi, a nyabinghi.
Do you agree with Sizzla's view of things? (hesitating) Yes I agree, because most of the time he burns the bad things, you know?
What is bad for you on earth? People who criticise, who have bad thoughts, war and crime.
In many of your songs you mention Zion, the promised land; what does it evoke for you? Zion is a sacred place, where there is only peace and love. Because we're living in a world that's currently full of bad things. So when I think of Zion, it's a place where there's nothing but love.
Your plans? Well, at the moment I'm working on lots of singles, to tell the truth! (laughs)
