Another tribute is planned in VP Records' 17th North Parade collection, this time to the production duo Steely & Clevie, in the form of a box set comprising two CDs and a DVD. It will be released on 25 January, a year and a half after the death of Wycliffe 'Steely' Johnson (see news of 14/09/09).
The package is entitled "Digital revolution", a way of underlining the influence of these two musicians (a pianist and a drummer respectively) on Jamaican music production over the last 20 years.
The 42 selected tracks show the full range of their talent, from Tiger's Ram dancehall (1988) to Assassin's As a man (2005), by way of adaptations of Studio One classics and minimalist programming such as Bushman's Call the hearse (1995) or the Street sweeper riddim (1999).
