"Negro with a Hat: The Rise and Fall of Marcus Garvey", the biography of the "Black Moses" written by the British author of Jamaican origin Colin Grant, is now available in French.
The French version, published by Afromundi, has indeed been translated from English by Hélène Lee, under the title "Le Nègre au chapeau : l'ascension et la chute de Marcus Garvey".
The book, first published in 2008, looks at the fascinating trajectory of Marcus Garvey, founder of the UNIA (Universal Negro Improvement Association) in 1914, apostle of the return to Africa, and regarded as the prophet of Rastafari. He died in London in 1940 and became Jamaica's first national hero in 1964.
A specialist in Jamaica, among other things, the French journalist and writer Hélène Lee is the translator. She is also the author of the book "Le Premier Rasta", which traces the journey of Leonard Percival Howell, one of the founders of the Rasta movement, and of "Voir Trenchtown et mourir".
