While the Dancehall Queen Contests, these dance competitions reserved for women, have existed for ten years in Jamaica, the phenomenon is still brand new in Europe, as the first edition of the European DHQ Contest took place on 21 April in Bologna, Italy. Dancers from all over the continent battled it out to win not only the European crown, but also a ticket to the International Dancehall Queen Contest, the ultimate competition to be held in Jamaica this summer.
This first edition of the European DHQ Contest will be available on DVD from 1 July on the official website. A trailer can be watched here.
