In a few days, Jamaica will officially enter "Reggae Month". On 9 January, Prime Minister Bruce Golding officially declared February dedicated to the music that made Jamaica famous. Called for by the Marley Foundation, this whole month devoted to various events will, they hope, draw the world's attention to reggae.
Starting with the anniversary of Bob Marley's birth, on 6 February. The Marley name will in fact be one of the keystones of this month of festivities, since the Africa Unite 2008 concert will also take place. Thirty years earlier, the famous One Love Peace Concert, organised by Marley, was held.
Also planned are a football match, film festivals (Reggae Film Festival, African Film Festival), and a "Global Reggae Conference". Last but not least, this Reggae Month is also the moment chosen by the recording industry to launch its first Reggae Academy Awards. But what matters is already 2009 : that will be when the fiftieth anniversary of the birth of reggae is celebrated.
