The Carifest never happened

The American festival Reggae Carifest, which was due to take place in New York on Sunday 6 July, ended up never reaching the finish line. On Saturday, the day before the concerts by Lee Perry, Matisyahu and Midnite, among others, the organisers announced in a press release that the festival was being cancelled outright, owing to insufficient ticket sales. This lack of interest is put down to the economic recession in the United States and to gloomy weather forecasts.

The festival had nevertheless put together a fine project, teaming up with a charitable initiative to fight AIDS through the organisation Keep a Child Alive.

Remember too that the organisers had already suffered a first setback following the remarks made by Eek-A-Mouse at a press conference (news of 18/06/2008), which had led them to remove his name from the bill.
