Pretty Rick, the MC of Tek-9 Movements, the Brooklyn sound system, died in the night of 9 to 10 January 2011. The victim of a heart attack, he is believed to have died in his sleep.
Tek-9 Movements was created in 1993 by the Trinidadian Father Tek, who brought together a bunch of friends from the Flatbush neighbourhood. In 1997, he left it aside to set up the Eclipse sound system until 2000, when he returned to his first love.
With his imposing build, Pretty Rick (real name Jovan Rouse) joined Tek-9 Movements in 2001 and became its vice-president. Nicknamed the "Microphone General", he was saluted by everyone for his kindness and generosity.
Tek 9 is one of the best-known sounds in New York, active every week. Without much of a clash track record, they had taken part in War inna East 2009 and, more recently, in November 2010, in "Island Invasion" in Trinidad, in a tag team configuration with Matsimela against Black Kat and Sound Trooper.
