A petition is online in an attempt to move the American justice system over the fate of the deejay, who is due to remain behind bars until 2019.

Found guilty of drug trafficking in February 2011 by the Miami court, Buju Banton has been imprisoned in the USA since December 2009.
The campaign in support of Buju Banton encourages internet users to print, sign and send a template letter to the Attorney General in Washington.
The letter, which speaks of a "grave injustice" towards Buju Banton, points out that DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency) informant Alexander Johnson reportedly received more than three million dollars for his services to government agencies, including a 35,000 dollar bonus for Buju's arrest (news of 23/03/2011).
The letter also recalls the testimony of DEA Sergeant Dan McCaffrey, who stated that there was no evidence that Buju Banton was a drug trafficker, and that the year-long investigation into him had turned up nothing.
The organisers of the petition hope to gather 50,000 letters before 9 December, the date on which Buju Banton was arrested in 2009.
