Three years after "Transform I", Dubkasm, a safe bet of the UK dub scene, have just released a new opus, titled "Brixton Rec".
Mixed by the unmissable Aba Shanti at the Falasha studios in London, "Brixton Rec" compiles several previously unreleased tracks on CD. Recorded in the 1990s for the sound systems of Aba Shanti and Jah Shaka, these tracks could only be heard at dances, most often at the Brixton Rec, the venue where Aba-Shanti played and which gives the album its title.
Until now, nobody could listen again to these recordings, which are already 15 years old. Dubkasm has therefore selected 8 unreleased tracks. Hailing from Bristol, it was only natural that they turn to the label Bristol Reggae Archive (which works to showcase Bristol's musical heritage)
Four tracks on the album feature vocal contributions from Tena Stelin (The Soul and Spiritual Warrior Time), the late Lidj Xylon (The Order) and Ras Addis (Jah Bible), a faithful accomplice of the label.
The CD and digital version also includes 3 bonus tracks, including a melodica cut of The Soul and Earth Rocker, recorded live.
"Brixton Rec" has been available since 8 October on LP, CD and digital, on Bristol Archive Records.
