Bobby Kalphat reissued by Pressure Sounds

Another exemplary reissue from Pressure Sounds: after a long wait, the English label is re-releasing Bobby Kalphat's classic album "Zion Hill Dub", recorded in 1977 for the producer Phil Pratt and never reissued.

Although he lacks the fame of Ernest Ranglin, Lyn Taitt, Jackie Mittoo or Don Drummond, Bobby Kalphat is nonetheless a first-rate musician. An accomplished pianist who also played the melodica, he lent his talents to many artists.

He started out with the Carib Beats, the group of Bobby Aitken (Laurel Aitken's brother), playing for tourists in the hotels of the north coast. He then played with all the island's best bands: Lynn Taitt & The Comets, Roland Alphonso & The Meditations, Tommy McCook & The Supersonics… and even with the Roots Radics.

This session musician therefore made only a few recordings for himself, including the famous Rhythm & Soul… and "Zion Hill". Among the pioneers of the use of the melodica in reggae (popularised by Augustus Pablo), Bobby Kalphat played a lot of it in his career, and you can hear it on "Zion Hill".

This second youth at Pressure Sounds comes with seven unreleased tracks added to the ten original ones.
