Owen Knibbs's digital bomb Juggler reissued by Jamwax Records
on Thursday, February 12th 2015 - 10 548 views
Owen Knibbs left only one title in the history of Jamaican music: Juggler, a little digital dancehall bomb, recorded at Aquarius studios (founded by producer Herman Chin Loy) in Kingston in 1987, for the Virgo Productions label.
Having become rare and expensive, the record is now being reissued as a 7" by the label Jamwax Records. As it had gone in search of the singer Delroy Melody, the French label tracked down in the United States the mysterious author of this track, whose original pressing could change hands, depending on condition, for between 100 and 200 euros.
Juggler paints the harsh reality of the ghetto, the lack of work and the daily search for a few coins. "Poverty never left the ghetto!" sings Owen Knibbs.
Originally from Montego Bay, Leon Virgo and Owen Knibbs went up to Kingston to record Juggler. They went back home, with no idea of the success the tune would enjoy; the track got radio play but the duo would not get a second chance: Juggler is Owen Knibbs's only tune released on vinyl at the time (he has returned to music in the last two years, under the name Ista).
Juggler is available as a single from www.jamwax.com.
