After two albums overseen by Don Corleon, Protoje turned to producer Winta James to make his third album, "Ancient Future". Winta James produced the hit Who Knows (as well as the terrific Rootsman riddim on which Chronixx lays down the sententious Here Comes Trouble), a 2014 hit that naturally appears among the album's 11 tracks, due on 10 March.
Clearly, the relationship between Winta James and Protoje is of the best: "When I write my lyrics, and then hear them, it's like looking in the mirror," Protoje explained. "I try to be honest with what I feel deep inside, to be able to express it and learn lessons from it. On the album, the music gave me that freedom. Working with Winta has really made me a better artist. By observing me for several years, he was able to assess my strengths and weaknesses."
Besides Chronixx, other singers of this generation appear: Jesse Royal, Kabaka Pyramid and the young Sevanna, whose lovely voice we had already been able to enjoy on Bit Too Shy.
