After the Vitamin riddim and the Highlight riddim, the French team at Akom Records is back with a new series, the Bonafide riddim. A riddim already familiar to fans, as it is the one Konshens voiced his powerful Weak on in 2010 (the label's second single after Murray Man), and which now opens up to a multitude of artists.

Naturally played by the house band, the Dub Akom Band, the Bonafide riddim brings together some of the most prominent artists of the new-roots generation: Pressure, Lutan Fyah and Natty King get the best out of the rhythm, while the now low-profile Jah Mason stays true to his old recipes on Life is the greatest.

Available on 7 June as a digital release and on CD on 20 June 2011.

Mix tracklist:

01. Jah Mason - Life Is The Greatest
02. Ricardo Clarke - Only Got Love
03. Ilements - Look To The East
04. Pressure - Be Conscious
05. Jahnett Tafari - Let The Music Play

In Jamaica, the lifeblood of the record industry is the riddim (from "rhythm"), an instrumental produced by a label. A label that does not settle for recording a single artist on that riddim, but as many as it can: this is what is called a "series". To make a name for itself, a label will try to get big names on its riddim. Amid the endless flow of releases, artists have every interest in voicing the most popular riddim of the moment. Every week in Jamaica, more than a hundred 7" singles are produced this way. Only later, if an artist manages to find a distributor and a record company, can they make an album, which usually gathers some of those singles.
