The Lyon-based outfit returns with its fourth studio effort and from the very first listen it is clear that the Rhône collective is still not minded to put its ideas in order. "Radio Blood Money" is a joyful jumble that moves somewhat away from the dub-smooth mood of Le Peuple de l’herbe, the single that launched them, with colder sounds. You have to wait until the third track to hear a little reggae, on Judge Not, with a very Jamaican toast from Sir Jean, aka Jean Gomis, the excellent vocalist of their cousins Mei Tei Sho.
Next comes some brassy funk in the style of Lalo Schifrin, and a few downtempo tracks with film-music samples. The Peuple de l’Herbe catch-all carries on with drum'n'bass, and Riddim Collision, one of the best tracks on the record, in an exercise the Lyonnais know by heart. One wonders whether their studio albums are not merely a pretext for letting loose in concert. For, as you will have gathered, it is only on stage that you can truly appreciate the sounds of Le Peuple de l’Herbe.
