Fantan Mojah in court

The singer Fantan Mojah, accused of using profanity on stage at the Western Consciousness 2005 festival, held on 24 April in Westmoreland, pleaded guilty and apologised before the Court in Savanna-la-Mar. Spotted by the police, who cut short his performance, Fantan Mojah was promptly prosecuted.
As the use of insults or vulgarity in public is strictly regulated and punished in Jamaica, the singer was offered a surprising alternative: a fine of 1,000 Jamaican dollars (about 15 euros) or 10 days in prison!
This regrettable incident, which exposes a judicial system that applies the law unevenly, unfortunately jeopardises Fantan Mojah's visit to France, where he was due to perform on 8 June in Paris.
