on Friday, January 31st 2014 - 8 318 views
Norval Headley, better known as John Wayne, died yesterday morning in a Kingston hospital, the deejay's circle has confirmed. The Jamaican press says he was suffering from kidney failure. John Wayne was 51.
Having risen to fame in King Jammy's stable, where he was one of the MCs, John Wayne leaves behind several hits for King Jammy (Call The Police, on the Sleng Teng riddim, covered in the soundtrack of the film "Shottas"), King Tubby (Love It A Kill Me on the Tempo riddim, Me No Boops Lover) and Bunny Lee (Boogie Down, You Too Greedy).
A cousin of Bounty Killer, whom he introduced to King Jammy in 1991, John Wayne toured Europe with the French sound system Soul Stereo in the early 2000s. His last visit to Europe dates back to 2007.
