The 2007 vintage of the Music of Black Origin Awards, held in London last weekend, has named its winner: Kanye West scoops the prizes for best hip hop artist and best video. In reggae, it is the baby-faced Sean Kingston who takes the honours. Almost unknown in our part of the world, this 17-year-old artist, grandson of producer Jack Ruby, could not have dreamed of better publicity before the release of his first album in France on 1 October. He is already preceded by his two hits: Beautiful girls (over a sample of Ben E King's Stand by me) and Love me (over a cover of Led Zep's D'yer Mak'er), two singles that will be on the album. He was up against Tony Matterhorn, Collie Buddz, Sean Kingston, Shaggy and Stephen Marley.
