The African griot, whose career spans more than 25 years, is back on stage for a French tour (see dates below), preceded by the release of his new album, "Jah Victory". In 1982, Alpha Blondy recorded "Jah Glory". Twenty-five years on, it is Jah's victory he celebrates, without giving up his syncretism, in both lyrics and music.
Alpha Blondy brazenly blends instruments from the Maghreb, bagpipes (on a surprising cover of Pink Floyd's Wish You were here) and accordion. He is as virulent as ever, as on the track Les salauds, which denounces, among others, "pyromaniac journalists, mythomaniac politicians, corrupt priests and sold-out imams". Recorded at Tuff Gong, with Tyrone Downie and featuring Sly & Robbie, "Jah Victory" is Alpha Blondy's 18th album. His best, he insists. Release scheduled for 29 October
