On Monday 15 October Shaggy received the Order of Distinction in the rank of Commander, for services rendered to Jamaica. The honour recognises a career begun in the early 90s with his cover of the hit Oh Carolina, followed by the international hit Boombastic, notably used by Levi's in its adverts. The album of the same name was a smash in 1996 and even won the Grammy Award. Over the last twelve years, Shaggy has sold no fewer than 20 million albums worldwide. Orville Richard Burrell, his real name, declared himself "honoured and particularly moved to see the Jamaican government confer such recognition on him."
