17th North Parade, VP's vintage sub-label, continues its programme of reissues drawn partly from the archives of the Randy's studio and shop.
The upcoming releases, spread from July onwards, give pride of place to the late producer Joe Gibbs, a major supplier of hits for the American distributor: after Barrington Levy (see review of 29/04/08), it is the turn of Dennis Brown, Jacob Miller and Culture to be the subject of a retrospective of their work with Gibbs. A double CD, stamped "Reggae anthology", will be devoted to Joe Gibbs and his right-hand man Errol Thompson (known as "The mighty two").
Two other artists will be favoured with double albums due in this collection: deejay Cutty Ranks and Cocoa Tea.
Heavier still, two four-CD box sets (reissues of four albums from the 80s/90s) are expected for two leading artists, Freddie McGregor and Dennis Brown.
A nice programme, without prejudging the content of these discs, which has yet to be revealed.
