The women's 100m final at the Olympic Games, held today, was completely one-sided: Jamaica placed all three of its entrants on the podium. Shelly-Ann Fraser wins in 10.78s. Behind her, her two compatriots Kerron Stewart and Sherone Simpson could not be separated (to the thousandth of a second!) and are therefore credited with joint second place.

Jamaica has thus cornered the medals in world sprinting, right under the noses of the Americans, who have little left but the relay to make amends. In Jamaica, the media, the government and the population cannot stop singing the praises of their heroes. A euphoria we will probably find again in song.
