Mavado to headline Rebel Salute
on Thursday, January 06th 2011 - 6 966 views
For nearly twenty years, Tony Rebel has been unflappably organising his concert-event, Rebel Salute.
The 18th edition, which takes place on 15 January, will be headlined by Mavado. Or rather David Brooks, as Rebel stresses. This is surprising at a roots festival, as several journalists pointed out to Tony Rebel, who replied: "David Brooks (aka Mavado) has a good side (a good side) and that is the side we wish to encourage". Citing the example of deejays such as Buju Banton and Capleton, who have changed musically, Rebel added that Mavado might follow the same path.
Be that as it may, the line-up is very impressive. Besides Mavado, you will find (take a deep breath, the list is long): Tony Rebel, Beres Hammond, Toots & the Maytals, Queen Ifrica, Tarrus Riley, Khago, I-Octane, Nadine Sutherland, Romain Virgo, Little John, Tristan Palmer, Ken Boothe, Carl Dawkins, Jack Radics, Fantan Mojah, Spanner Banner, Chuck Fender, Lone Ranger, Dennis Alcapone, Junior X... and others.
