The Elysée Montmartre must live on
on Friday, March 25th 2011 - 6 549 views
We are publishing below a statement from Garance Productions:
"The Elysée Montmartre, 72 boulevard de Rochechouart, Paris 18, suffered very serious damage in the fire that ravaged it on Tuesday 22 March. The criminal investigation department is investigating the causes of the blaze.
The Garance Productions team, which has run the Elysée Montmartre for more than 23 years, is doing everything it can to ensure that the concerts already scheduled go ahead. Precise information will be posted on the Elysée Montmartre website from next week. Le Bal and the Paris Extrême Festival are cancelled. Tickets can be refunded at the various points of sale.
Alongside the damage caused by this fire, the survival of this two-hundred-year-old venue is under threat. The owner of the building, a property company, had sent the Elysée Montmartre management an eviction notice. Despite all the requests sent to this company to allow the venue to continue operating, no reply has been received to date.
Is the Elysée Montmartre destined to become a car park or a supermarket?
The employees of the Elysée Montmartre are calling on everyone who has shown their support since Tuesday, whether anonymous, artists or friends, to gather in front of the Elysée Montmartre on Saturday 26 March at 4pm.
Everyone who wishes to will put on a sheet of paper a name, a memory or a drawing that expresses their attachment to the Elysée Montmartre. At 4.22pm, we will take the family photo."
In brief...
