Mavado signs with We the Best
on Monday, September 05th 2011 - 6 565 views
Mavado has joined We da Best Music, the label of DJ Khaled, the American producer and radio host.
"Mavado is officially signed to We the Best Music Group," DJ Khaled announced on New York radio station Hot 97 FM. "He is part of the family, the brand, an extension of the movement."
Back in March 2011, Mavado had joined the all-star XXL cast (Ludacris, T-Pain, Busta Rhymes, Twista, Birdman, Ace Hood, Fat Joe, Jadakiss, Bun B, Game, Waka Flocka) on the remix of Welcome to My Hood (originally recorded with Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, Plies and T-Pain).
Mavado's manager, Julian Jones-Griffith, told the Jamaican Weekend Star that several labels had approached the Gully God. "I listened to all the offers, but this partnership with We The Best Music made the most sense. He knows Jamaican music and culture well, and he recognises that our music has played an important part in his success." (...) "He was always in Jamaica, he recorded a track on Bounty Killer's latest album, Mavado has been a guest on his albums several times, we are old friends. Ever since he found success, he has often talked to me about signing Mavado. Everything comes in its own time, it all fell into place at the right moment, and now it's done."
A real springboard for Mavado, who is thereby setting foot a little more firmly in the American market. By teaming up with DJ Khaled, Mavado moves closer to US artists, and particularly to the Young Money crew (Lil Wayne, Drake, T-Pain, Nicki Minaj...).
At We Da Best (distributed by Def Jam Records), Mavado joins artists such as Ace Hood (with whom he recorded his first track for We Da Best, Emergency), Hollyhood Bay Bay, Cubic Z, Ice Berg and, of course, DJ Khaled.
