''Sweet Reggae Music'', the Barrington Levy anthology
on Wednesday, December 19th 2012 - 4 237 views
VP Records, via its 17 North Parade label, is releasing a new Barrington Levy anthology, "Sweet Reggae Music".
1979-1984: this double-CD box set (with a superb sleeve) covers just five years, but not just any five years: the 40 tracks presented here were recorded between 1979 and 1984, a rich period for the young singer.
Marked by his collaboration with producer Junjo Lawes, engineer Scientist and the Roots Radics musicians, but also Linval Thompson and George Phang, those five years do indeed contain a good number of Barrington Levy's hits.
Shine Eye Gal, Poor Man Style, Prison Oval Rock, Black Roses and, of course, Here I Come and Under Me Sensi are among the 40 tracks. But above all, "Sweet Reggae Music" includes a number of titles previously unavailable on CD (Whom Shall I Be Afraid Of, Praise His Name, Pon Your Toe, Tomorrow Is Another Day), 12" mixes of The Winner and Tribute To Moa Anbessa (with Jah Thomas), and two unreleased tracks, Black Hen Chicken and The Letter Song.
