Stop That Sound riddim – Irie Ites Records

In 2008, the French label Irie Ites released a duet by Lutan Fyah and Spectacular, Kill Dem Sound, on 10". The track used the rhythm of the famous Stop that train by Keith & Tex, produced by Derrick Harriott in the late 60s.

Revisited by Irie Ites with a hip hop drum pattern, the riddim now gives rise, four years later, to a new series from the French label, with Sizzla, Ward 21, Skarra Mucci & Perfect, General Levy and Deadly Hunta.
Available on vinyl in the course of August. A One riddim album is also in the works. It should be out in October, with exclusive tracks by Perfect, Tony D (Jamaica) and MC Columbo (Hungary)...

Tracklist:
01. Lutan Fyah & Spectacular - Kill Dem Sound
02. Ward 21 - Dead Tonight
03. Sizzla - Hypocrites
04. Skarra Mucci & Perfect - Bomboclaat
05. General Levy - Dub Murda
06. Deadly Hunta - Dubplate Spillin

In Jamaica, the lifeblood of the record industry is the riddim (from "rhythm"), an instrumental produced by a label. A label that does not settle for recording a single artist on that riddim, but as many as it can: this is what is called a "series". To make a name for itself, a label will try to get big names on its riddim. Amid the endless flow of releases, artists have every interest in voicing the most popular riddim of the moment. Every week in Jamaica, more than a hundred 7" singles are produced this way. Only later, if an artist manages to find a distributor and a record company, can they make an album, which usually gathers some of those singles.
