Alpha Blondy and Carla Bruni
on Friday, April 01st 2011 - 8 249 views
Invited on RMC to the programme Les Grandes Gueules, Alpha Blondy did not mince his words. Asked about the speech Nicolas Sarkozy gave in Dakar in July 2007 (in which he claimed that "the African man has not entered sufficiently into History"), his answer came quickly: "Nicolas Sarkozy made a serious mistake. He himself has not really entered into the history of France!"
Billed at La Nuit Africaine on 11 June at the Stade de France, the Ivorian artist even invited Carla Bruni to join him on stage, as ambassador of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS:
"I would like to send a message to Mrs Sarkozy. I hope brother Nicolas will redeem himself with regard to Africa. (…) It would be nice if she came with her guitar and graced us with a few notes. It could be a beautiful message. So my brother Nicolas, if you can hear me, it would be good if you made up for what you said, which hurt us, by asking your wife to come and sing us a few songs to help us."
At the end of March, asked to comment on the post-election crisis in Ivory Coast in an interview with Slate Afrique, Alpha Blondy had not held back either: "I'm asking Ivorians to stop being stupid. Let's not be stupid! The truth is, whoever kills Gbagbo will have killed Ouattara. Whoever kills Ouattara will have killed Gbagbo. OK? I'm tired of always warning you. I no longer want to be right. You have to take your responsibilities!"
