Ijahman de son vrai nom Trevor Sutherland est né le 19 juin 1946. Il reste un artiste majeur du reggae roots. Il enregistre son premier single Red Eyes People pour Duke Reid à l'âge de 18 ans. Dans les années 60, il émigre avec ses parents en Angleterre et forme un groupe appelé Vibrations en 1965. Lorsque le groupe se sépare, il en fonde un second, Youth And Rudie And The Shell Shock. Il y reste jusqu'aux débuts de sa carrière solo qu'il commence sous le nom de Youth en 1966.
Courtisé par de nombreux labels, il sort plusieurs singles chez Polidor en 1967 et Decca en 1968. Sa carrière est interrompue lorsqu'il est envoyé en prison pendant trois ans. Derrière les barreaux, le chanteur prend le nom Ijahman Levi et écrit un de ses plus grands classiques, Jah heavy Load. A sa sortie en 1974, il se tourne vers Rastafari et se met à étudier la bible. Il enregistre un an plus tard Jah Heavy Load pour Concrete Jungle (Dip Records).
Lors d'une collaboration sur un album du tromboniste Rico Rodriguez, il est remarqué par le producteur Chris Blackwell qui décide de le signer. En 1978 sort "Haile I Hymn" suivi un an plus tard par "Are We A Warrior". Profitant du succès de ces deux albums, Ijahman quitte Island et fonde son propre label Tree Roots Records International en 1980.
Dans les années 80 Ijahman est très actif: il sort "Tell To The Children", "Africa", "Lilly Of My Vallee", "Forward Rastaman", "Culture Country", "Ijahman & friends" et "Inside Out". Il se marie également avec Madge avec laquelle il produit l'opus "I Do". La chanson éponyme demeure d'ailleurs l'un de ses plus gros succès et a atteint les premières places des charts anglais en 1985.
En 1990, Ijahman continue sa carrière et produit pas moins de 13 albums dont un live à Paris et un hommage spécial Bob Marley. Plus récemment, le chanteur a sorti un DVD live intitulé "On A Journey" retraçant deux concerts donnés en Europe. Avec 27 albums au compteur, Ijahman poursuit son œuvre et donne des concerts partout dans le monde.

dommage kil ne sorte plus gd chose , mais je continue encore et encore sans m en lasser d ecouter ts ses albums ke je garde prcieusement !!!
